The world famous BUD/S Obstacle course
(called simply the O-course) is one of the most challenging of its kind in the world.
The O-course resembles a gigantic sandbox with lots of "play" equipment, including telephone poles of various sizes to dash across, 50-foot nets and 25-foot walls to scale, and barbed wire to crawl under. You will do this O-course as a boot crew with your IBS during HELL WEEK. So start thinking strategy now. It will pay big later.
This O-course will challenge the most agile guy. It is imperative that you train for the specific physical demands of BUD/S. The O-course is one of the specific demands you must train for. It is a 15 minute circuit workout with wall climbing, jumping, crawling, rope climbing, net climbing, sprints between every obstacle, swinging, pulling, and monkey bars. You must train in this fashion if you want your body to be able to handle the demands you are going to place on it. Analyze the physical challenges and demands of BUD/S and then train to excel at them.
If you have a fear of heights you are going to want to address that before you get to this O-course. As you go through the tour you will see that there are no nets. But don't worry the sand will break your fall.
Here are the Obstacle Course times per phase. The slowest trainee in the class must wear a pink T-shirt that reads, "Always a Lady". Don't be that person. As you can see below the O-course times become more demanding as you progress through the phases. One of the biggest challenges of the O-course is forearm endurance. Your forearms are going to get smoked. Make sure you train for this before you get to BUD/S. Technique is important as you move through the obstacles. In this visual tour you will see every obstacle. Get a mental image of yourself going through the O-course now so you can get your mind used to the course. Work on short sprints, you will need to be able to move short distances quickly in soft sand. Build up your work capacity, as you can see you will going all out upto 15 minutes. This is a great workout.
